Abstract

Pirbuterol, a new oral beta 2 selective bronchodialator was tested in 25 asthmatic patients. Pirbuterol (Exirel*), 30-40mg per day, was orally administered in three or four divided doses over 4 weeks. All patients were checked by weekly peak flow meter, auscutation and clinical findings.
As the result, improvement in peakflow rate was observed in 21 cases of bronchial asthma, efficacy ratio being 88%. Improvement was noted in 88% of cases with wheezing, 86.6% of cases with rhonchi and 88.9% of cases with moist rales. Side effects were noted in 44 cases, tremor in 2 cases, and headache and dizziness respectively in 1 case.
